At some point our initramfs image grew over 6MB, which is causing an issue when uncompressing in the stock bootloader: => bootm 0x5000000 - 0x1000000; Image Name: Linux-4.19.24 Created: 2019-02-23 1:58:20 UTC Image Type: PowerPC Linux Kernel Image (gzip compressed) Data Size: 6752470 Bytes = 6.4 MB Load Address: 00000000 Entry Point: 00000000 Verifying Checksum ... OK Booting using the fdt blob at 0x1000000 Uncompressing Kernel Image ... Error: inflate() returned -5 GUNZIP: uncompress, out-of-mem or overwrite error - must RESET board to recover Loading Device Tree to 00ffa000, end 00fffc78 ... OK To get around this, we need to move to an uncompressed image for the initramfs image. While this makes a larger image, it is thankfully bootable so people can then convert their devices to run OpenWRT. It's worth noting the non-initramfs image is under 3M, so it will be ages before we have any issues with the flashed kernel. This is the buildsystem for the OpenWrt Linux distribution.
To build your own firmware you need a Linux, BSD or MacOSX system (case
sensitive filesystem required). Cygwin is unsupported because of the lack
of a case sensitive file system.
You need gcc, binutils, bzip2, flex, python, perl, make, find, grep, diff,
unzip, gawk, getopt, subversion, libz-dev and libc headers installed.
1. Run "./scripts/feeds update -a" to obtain all the latest package definitions
defined in feeds.conf / feeds.conf.default
2. Run "./scripts/feeds install -a" to install symlinks for all obtained
packages into package/feeds/
3. Run "make menuconfig" to select your preferred configuration for the
toolchain, target system & firmware packages.
4. Run "make" to build your firmware. This will download all sources, build
the cross-compile toolchain and then cross-compile the Linux kernel & all
chosen applications for your target system.
